Born and raised in Minnesota

Dane grew up in Minnesota in a family that loved animals — not just the standard cats and dogs, but ducks, bunnies, turtles, and more. Animal Planet and Steve Irwin were always on the family room TV.

He grew up golfing on and off but never took it seriously. As he’s gotten older, he’s grown to enjoy the sport more. After relocating from Minneapolis to Chaska, he’s become fond of the city’s trails and park systems.

Philosophy & approach

What’s your core belief about how insurance should work?
I believe insurance should work when you actually need it. Business owners take risks every day, and that’s a good thing. However, a lawsuit, a fire, or a key employee getting hurt — these are the moments that can threaten everything you’ve worked hard to build. I believe that is what insurance is really for. Not piles of paperwork with confusing fine print, but a straightforward promise of “we’ve got your back if something goes wrong.”
What frustrates you about the insurance industry?
Honestly, the same thing that frustrates most people. The jargon that takes a law degree to decode. Coverage that sounds comprehensive — until you actually need it. My frustration is that the industry has become too comfortable with complexity, and that complexity tends to work against the customer. I want to cut through it with plain language. Be a real person instead of a 1-800 number.
What kind of clients do you love working with?
The ones who built something from scratch and want to protect it. Personally, I enjoy working with clients who see insurance not as a box to check, but as a piece of running a responsible business.
